Sightseeing and history
Mongolia’s history is dominated by the figure of Genghis Khan but sightseeing offers much more than just the famous leader. Ulaanbaatar is not only the capital but also the heart of the country with its beautiful temples and ruins dating back to Genghis Khan’s times. For lovers of wildlife, the Khustain Nuruu Nature Reserve offers the chance to see the wild Przewalski’s horse, known to the locals as takhi horses. While modern Kharkhorum may not look too spectacular, this was the capital of Genghis Khan and home to the most important monastery in Mongolia with a museum next door covering its history.
